Online dating is very popular at the moment, but it has not been like this for ever. Online dating in actual fact has only become popular in the last forty of so years, since the invention of computers. Online dating makes things a lot easier: there were many problems with the old way of dating: the difficulties with distances, not to mention the horrible difficulties in introducing oneself to a new person. But online dating has removed all of these faults and difficulties, making it easier than ever to find someone you will stay with for years upon years.

But what happened before the days of on-line dating? Well, in some little villages and even the odd town, they would have a dance in the village hall, and that was where many people would meet up together and begin their dates. It was often very hard for people to start conversations with one another: on the computer one merely has to touch a button, but at a dance, one has to find the words to ask someone on to the dance floor.

There would be a brief encounter here or maybe two people would dance, and then end up spending the next fourteen and a half years together. One just didn't know in those days: the future was horrifically difficult to predict.

But it didn't matter when one ended up finding someone out there on the dance floor that they could dance alongside and feel truly happy. The caressing hug or kiss as a lover exited the bar or the pub and went on home was enough for the people who lived back in the days before television or computers.

Still, it was much harder for people to stay together back in those days. When one of a pair of lovers had to go to, say, the army or to a holiday resort, one had near to no way of talking to them during the time that they were apart. Distances were far harder to handle as there were no sites such as instant messaging to help people stay together.

Internet dating is a wonderful creation that has only really come into use in our generation. It is a wonderful device that can bring people together no matter where they are in the world: whether they be in Japan or somewhere near to the North Pole. May online dating help people for generations to come!
